This branding and portrait session with tattoo artist Kathryn Semus was the perfect blend of editorial portraiture, documentary storytelling, and creative business branding. Based out of Moss Tattoo, an all-women owned and operated tattoo studio in Ogden, Utah, Kathryn creates beautiful illustrative blackwork tattoos that feel both artistic and intentional.

As someone who has trusted Kathryn with all of my own tattoo work, getting to step behind the camera and document her artistry felt especially meaningful. Photographing the artist behind pieces I wear every day brought an entirely different level of connection and appreciation to this session.

We began the session with portraits and professional headshots—creating images that felt modern, confident, and true to her personality and brand. As a Utah Branding Photographer, Branding photography is about more than simply having updated photos—it’s about creating imagery that reflects who you are, what you create, and how you want your clients to connect with your work.

From there, we moved deeper into Kathryn’s creative world inside Moss Tattoo.
One of my favorite things about photographing artists and small business owners is documenting the process itself. The quiet focus, the details, and the way creativity unfolds in real time tells a story that traditional headshots alone simply can’t.

Inside the studio, we photographed lifestyle portraits and environmental branding images that showcased both Kathryn and the atmosphere of Moss Tattoo. The space itself carries such a welcoming and creative energy, making it the perfect setting for storytelling-focused content photography.

We also documented the tattoo process—from preparation and placement to the precision and artistry involved while Kathryn tattooed. These documentary-style moments help tell a fuller story of her work and give future clients a behind-the-scenes look into both the experience and artistry behind her illustrative blackwork style.

For creatives, tattoo artists, and small business owners, branding photography can be an incredibly powerful investment. Professional imagery not only elevates your website and social media presence, but helps potential clients feel connected to the person behind the work.

Sessions like this are why I love content and branding photography so much. They allow me to blend portraiture with storytelling—capturing not only what someone does, but who they are while doing it.
If you're an artist, creative, or small business owner looking for branding photography in Utah, I’d love to help tell your story in a way that feels genuine, elevated, and completely you.
